Mojo Friday - Olympic - Edition
Fri Aug 15, 2008 at 07:29:27 AM PDT
Well, have you had enough or are you looking for more? China is leading in the Gold Medal count while the US is leading in the overall. The swim judge who disqualified the Chinese swimmer hasn't been seen since. ;7) And that explains the strange scoring in Gymnastics.
And with the world distracted, Russia invades Georgia using the George W. Bush line of reasoning and "legal" arguments. And the GOPpers and their buddies at AEI (American Enterprise Institute)are all aghast at Russia's legal reasoning. What George, someone forgot to tell you about a thing called precedent setting? You know when you lay out a legal "justification" others may/can use it to justify their actions?
Mojo Friday - Pimpin' For Possum - Edition
Fri Aug 08, 2008 at 07:29:20 AM PDT
As you all are aware we have many Kossacks running for various offices. Among them is a regular Mojo Friday participant Possum aka Jerry Northington. Jerry is running for Congress in Delaware but first he has a primary to win on 9 September. So with that in mind I'm asking for your donation.
If you want to read more about Jerry you can go to his website Northington08, I'll post some highlights over the flip.
Mojo Friday - Atrial Fibrillation - Edition
Fri Jul 25, 2008 at 07:30:11 AM PDT
Life forces lessons upon us, some of them we would rather not have learned. The term A-Fib or Arterial/Atrial Fibrillation is one I could gone without learning on a personal level. This week I'll cover with you my experience last week and why I learned this phrase.
However before I do, a bit of NFTT business. Roses had planned to use this space this week to do a wrap-up diary about NFTT, however she needed to catch up the many things that had been delayed in her RL due to her involvement and chairmanship of the NFTT event. So she'll be posting it sometime next week. LOOK FOR IT! Read it and recommend it.

So catch this on the flip. Also, check for a special announcement, and the end of the diary for other ways you can help.
Mojo Friday - Yankee Doodle Dandy - Edition
Fri Jul 04, 2008 at 07:28:48 AM PDT
I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy
A Yankee Doodle, do or die
A real live nephew of my Uncle Sam
Born on the Fourth of July
I've got a Yankee Doodle sweetheart
She's my Yankee Doodle joy
Yankee Doodle came to London
Just to ride the ponies
I am the Yankee Doodle Boy
by George M. Cohan
Maybe you remember James Cagney playing the role of George Cohan in the movie by the same name. It was another of those films Hollywood put out during WWII to boost morale and patriotism. But, beyond some one born on the Fourth of July what is a Yankee Doodle? I have two ex-BIL's who where born on the Fourth of July, notice I said ex.
Mojo Friday - NFTT - Taking Names - Edition
Fri Jun 27, 2008 at 07:29:15 AM PDT
Thank you, thank you, thank you. You guys have been great. NFTT has achieved it's primary goal of $10,000. That money will allow us to send the big ticket items. However, now we need to send the packages to a person. To do that we need names, lots of names. Our preference would be to send the packages to a member of the Armed Forces who has a Netroots/Dkos connection. Our default resource will be AnySoldier/Marine/Sailor/Airmen.com. Sending 101 Care Packages to guys/gals with a connection to us would make even more special. So, reach back into your memory and see if you have anyone related to you (that includes neighbors, church etc) that will be stationed in Afghanistan or Iraq Theatres in August.
Mojo Friday - NFTT = Netroots For The Troops - Edition
Fri Jun 20, 2008 at 07:35:24 AM PDT
Six (free or inexpensive) Ways You Can Help
Maybe you've seen NFTT and didn't know what it meant, now you know. So when you see those letters jump in and lend a hand.
For the last few weeks, the IGTNT and Mojo Friday communities have been asking you to help them with Netroots For The Troops -- a project planned for Netroots Nation 2008 in Austin, July 17-20 -- that hopes to send 101 troop care packages to American soldioers curently serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, supplying them with everyday sundries -- including work gloves, phone cards, underwear and protein bars -- that the government refuses to provide them, despite spending billions of dollars a week.
Mojo Friday - ????????? - Edition
Fri Jun 06, 2008 at 07:28:31 AM PDT
I had another diary planned and written but had to scrap it due to an unforeseen occurrence. A few of you may have had an advanced billing of the topic and may have questions. Those questions will not be addressed here.
Today we'll just be doing just a grab for mojo. Anything goes except;
There will be no bashing of Democratic Presidential candidates. No Hillary Bashing, No Obama Bashing. The diary should still be as candidate-free as possible. But go ahead and bash Bush and McCain all you want.
Mojo Friday - Appeasement - Edition
Fri May 16, 2008 at 07:29:11 AM PDT
Webster's defines appease as follows;
- to bring to a state of peace or quiet
:Calm 2: to cause to subside
:Allay 3: Pacify, conciliate; esp: to buy off (a potential aggressor) by concessions usually at the sacrifice of principles - appeasement
Wikipedia has this to say;
Appeasement, literally: calming, reconciling, acquiring peace by way of concessions ór gifts (the verb 'to pay' also goes back to the Latin 'pax' = peace). Most commonly, appeasement is used for the policy of accepting the imposed conditions of an aggressor in lieu of armed resistance, usually at the sacrifice of principles. Usually it means giving in to demands of an aggressor in order to avoid war.
Mojo Friday - First Anniversary - Edition
Fri May 02, 2008 at 07:42:45 AM PDT
Trouble publishing guys.
So I'm going to do this a bit at a time
WOW!
Has it really been a year? What a Freakin' year. I want to say thanks to all the regular MF'ers as well as the occasional MF'ers too. And to all the newbies, sit back and enjoy.
The inspiration for Mojo Friday came in two steps and two posters. Buhdydharma and his ********** **** ************* ***! and Pastordan's Why I Hate Daily Kos.
As well as a desire for the absolute most mojo possible, so here we are.
Mojo Friday - What Did You Eat For Breakfast - Edition
Fri Apr 18, 2008 at 07:29:13 AM PDT
After last week's overwhelming response how do you follow it up? Do I tackle serious again? As many told me, don't worry about it, just write something. Okay, so here we go.
Breakfast is supposed to be the most important meal of the day, so how did you start your's? I had oatmeal. Sometimes I have toast and honey with OJ. And always Tazo Chai Latte, I'm spoiled that way. I did coffee in the past but the Dr. told me to cut back on my caffeine. I probably eat a better breakfast when we have guest because we'll add yogurt and fresh fruit to the menu.
When do you eat the best breakfast? At home, vacation or business travel?
Mojo Friday - Impeach Now - Edition
Fri Apr 11, 2008 at 07:28:40 AM PDT
Yesterday Troutfishing wrote a diary about the veritable smoking gun needed to make impeachment not just possible but imperative. His diary was based on a piece reported by (OMG) ABC News (Holy Shit). And over at Docudharma, Valtin has written a piece on the National Lawyers Guild's call for the firing of John Yoo from his position at UC Berkeley's law school. And then trying him for war crimes.
Mojo Friday - Special Midweek Open Thread - Edition
Tue Apr 01, 2008 at 05:15:43 PM PDT
For those of you who don't follow us on Friday, several weeks ago we decide to keep Mojo Friday open as a week long open thread. You find 15-20 regular MF'ers making comments there all week. It has been used as a non candidiary free zone. No politics unless you're beating up a GOPper.
Well, due to the volume of comments last Friday's MF diary has just bogged down. The problem was created by some of the games being played there. Word association, song lyric tag, along with some of the old caterpillers. We had 200 or more comment threads, ouch. There have been other Mojo Friday diaries with more comments but the combination of long threads and right wall banging was killing anyone who tried to open the whole monster. Some of us were opening a comment at a time just to make it easier. That can be funny by itself, a comment hanging out there out of context.
Mojo Friday - Random Edition
Fri Mar 28, 2008 at 07:29:36 AM PDT
There is no specific topic today mostly just some house keeping.
I want to thank jlms qkw for filling in for me last week. And while I'm at it announce that next Friday we are in for a treat, Sarahnity will be posting a Mojo Friday/Frugal Friday combo post. The topic tentatively will be on last minute tax filings etc. We're hoping to give her just a little more exposure than usual.
If you missed it, Ninepatch posted a special edition MF yesterday requesting your further assistance in writing our Armed Forces personnel. Check it out and support her and our troops with a note to let them know you care about them.
Mojo Friday - March Madness - Edition
Fri Mar 14, 2008 at 07:28:50 AM PDT
Ah, College Basketball and March. I love this time of year, the excitement and anticipation of what's to come. And as a Tarheel the expectations tend to be higher. And considering they are currently ranked No. 1, those expectations are even higher still. Tough life.
Mojo Friday has engaged in it's own March Madness. Through the perseverance of some of your hardy fellow MF'ers Mojo Friday has attain the status of No.1 of all time diaries with the most comments. At the time of this posting the count was 3209. If you want to see where we rank look here.
Another thing that has happened for the second week in a row is the comments came all week long. Ten to fifteen MF'ers have used it as a combination delayed IM, open thread and a continued safe haven from the candidiaries. Join us this week.
On Spitzer and Impeachment
Tue Mar 11, 2008 at 11:25:12 AM PDT
So, let me get this straight. We can impeach Democrats over their sexual peccadilloes but we can't impeach Bush for war crimes? Give me a fucking break. Does this not scream of a political witch hunt? The fact that the NY GOPpers immediately jump on the concept of impeachment is just odious.
Now don't get me wrong, Spitzer's behavior put him where he is, but his behavior doesn't remove the smell of this whole "affair". Having read several comments in other diaries about this I know I'm not alone in this feeling that this was an investigation in search of a crime.
Mojo Friday - Vice President - Edition
Fri Mar 07, 2008 at 07:28:20 AM PDT
With the GOPpers having definitely decided on their guy and the Dems down to two. I thought we might cover the previous Second Fiddles. Also known as VPOTUS (Vice President of the United States). Did you know that one of our Veeps was indicted for murderedand later accused of treason? And he was succeeded by a Clinton, first name George. Scary ain't it? Names intertwined, situations familiar 200 years later.
There have been 43 Presidents but 72 Vice Presidents. That's because until the last 4 two term Presidents it was more common to dump the VP for the second term. Thirteen Vice Presidents went on to become President. Nine ascended to the office four were elected on their own. Of the nine that ascended only four were re-elected and Teddy was the first of these. Two VPs served two different Presidents. Four of the VPs that ascended had no VP during their term as President.
Mojo Friday - Quotes - Edition
Fri Feb 29, 2008 at 07:27:42 AM PDT
Sydney J. Harris Quotes
I love quotes. The wisdom that come from just a few words someone has uttered. Most of the time we are acquainted with either the quote or the person being quoted. Sydney J. Harris was not someone I had heard of before. Whether that's my ignorance or an situation of his notoriety is something we'll possibly discover here today. I ran across him through an email from Carissa Picard, President of Military Spouse for Change.
The quote used by Carissa that made me want to know who Harris is/was?
Patriotism is proud of a country's virtues and eager to correct its deficiencies; it also acknowledges the legitimate patriotism of other countries, with their own specific virtues. The pride of nationalism, however, trumpets its country's virtues and denies its deficiencies, while it is contemptuous toward the virtues of other countries. It wants to be, and proclaims itself to be, 'the greatest,' but greatness is not required of a country; only goodness is.
